Kansas City Water Fountains Provide Beauty to the Cities Parks and Squares
The interest in water fountains in this area started in the late 19th century and the first of the fountains was built on the Paseo, however the original fountain only lasted until 1941 when it was destroyed and rebuilt in the same year. Since then there has been many more water fountains built in this region and more have been added over time. Within this article we will take a look at a few of the fountains that have been built and discover the beauty of their design and architecture.
One of the most impressive of all the Kansas City Water Fountains is in the crown centre square and the water jets provide not only a magnificent display but somewhere where people and children can relax and enjoy the long hot summer days. It was in the 1960s when the idea to regenerate this area of the city came about and with the urban regeneration the square was overhauled and the fountain was built. In total there are 49 jets of water that are propelled into the air up to a height of 60 feet and the unique element to this fountain is there is no basin which is really unusual. All of the water is gathered from an underground chamber and this is where the 2200 gallons of water per minute are propelled into the air. To illuminate the fountain there is an array of coloured lights which shine through the water beams and this creates a magnificent display. In total the fountain covers a space of over 2000 feet and is one if not the most impressive of all the fountains in the city.
On a slightly smaller scale but no less impressive is the Northland Fountain and this was one of the first to be built on the northern side of the Missouri River and possibly one of the youngest as well as it was built in the 1980s. It was at this time when the council made a purchase of 8 acres of land and as part of the land agreement it was declared that an outdoor fountain would be built on the land. In order to ensure the prominence of the fountain was good it was built on a high point near the north oak traffic way and the vivion road. The fountain is made up of a circular pool and there are multiple jets of water that come out to a height of over 35 meters. As well as this within the inner circle of the fountain is a series of 10 jets which spray water to a height of 10 meters and this creates a magnificent effect. This really is one of the most beautiful and outstanding of the Kansas City Water Fountains and the pride of the residents and the people of the surrounding areas.
